Bilde

"The International Tree" at Solvang Skole was officially presented during the Comenius Meeting in week 45. On Wednesday 4th November 2009 we invited guests from partner schools in Italy, Greece and Poland to join classes from Solvang Skole, members of staff. students in teachers training practice and other guests. It was a very nice gathering around our "International Tree".

In the beginning of the Meeting in the School Library there was a welcome and a short presentation of the project  "The International Tree - Developing Environmental Awareness", and the importance of the leaves having messages. The first leaves have messages of environmental challenges, locally and internationally. Then the pupils will create leaves with suggested solutions to environmental challenges. The next year there will be fruits presenting individual action plans, and having everyone doing something for environment, we aim at doing our best for a better world. In addition there is the importance of international friendship, sharing language and culture of each others countries.

The pupils at Solvang Skole had a performance showing parts of activities on "The International Language Day". There were singing in different languages and dancing. We had Photo - Stories from environmental project work at Solvang Skole.

The Polish partner school had a PowerPoint - presentation from their  work on  "The International Day of Language", showing a variety of activities.

Our partner school in the UK, visited Solvang Skole in week 40, 2009. Their pupils had presentations from environmental work.  We had video-clips from their presentations. In that way we had them joining us in this Meeting as well.

Then there was the presentation of the grandfather in our school, Bjørn Toft, who has created the tree for Solvang  Skole. We are very grateful for all that he has done for us. Solvang Skole got another present in this Meeting, a golden Box to keep treasures at the end of the rainbow, in our library, called the "Rainbow Room".  It has become a marvellous room  for our school.

Then the exchange of leaves and flags, a great moment for all. Every partner school brought their leaves, and they were highly appreciated by all receiving them. There was a rich variety of leaves to be placed on "The International Tree" in every partner school. Then we will see what challenges are to be found in each country, if they are the same or different. In this way project work will continue. Next step is to suggest solutions to these environmental challenges.

The continuing collaboration in our project, will bring our countries closer together in many ways, creating understanding, tolerance and erase borders through collaboration. This is fundamental things in EUs Lifelong Learning Programme, which gives us the opportunity to join in this project by funding it. We are very grateful for the economic support which makes it possible to be part of international collaboration.
